About the Michigan Publinx Golf Association
The Michigan Publinx Golf Association is one of the oldest and most respected golf organizations in the state. Founded in 1951, the Michigan Publinx Golf Association, along with the Golf Association of Michigan and the Professional Golfers Association of America, are the original organizations established to serve golfers in the State of Michigan.
The Michigan Publinx membership includes hundreds players varying in levels of ability. Our members have won local and national tournaments, and we also have members who are competing in their first tournaments. The Michigan Publinx has competitions for all skill levels and age groups. Our Championship Series events have three divisions: Championship, Senior Scratch, and NET. The NET division is for anyone over the age of 16, and if you do not have an estabilished handicap we will help you get one before the event.
Throughout the season we host multiple competitions in a variety of formats. Each year we host four Championship series events, which are one day tournaments typically held on Sundays. Next, we have our annual MPGA Medal Play Championship (formally the Lee Gohs) which is a 54 hole tournament held over two days in May. Near the end of July we annually host the Michigan Publinx State Match Play. The State Match Play is one of the oldest statewide tournaments held in Michigan. The State Match Play is open to Championship, Senior, and Super Senior divisions. Everyone is guaranteed a qualifying round and at least one match.
The Michigan Publinx also hosts two unique Team Play competitions. Our Championship and Senior Teams are groups of 10 players that travel to different courses each season to compete head to head with another team. Our team play scoring is broken down by groups. Each team will send two players out to compete for 11 points: two-man best ball for 3 points, individual match play for 3 points (players A & B each play for 3 points), and low individual 18 hole score for 1 point each. After the regular season concludes, teams can earn a spot in the playoffs where they compete in a single elimination head to head match until the finals are concluded in September.
Regardless of whether your handicap is 0 or 20, if you are looking for competitive golf in the state of Michigan, we hope you come check out our events!
